Shitology Essay There have been many stories told in the past about Gods. Every story has its own supernatural spin, providing a forceful sense of cause and effect events. This almost always forms the cultural plot to describe a bad or good point in time. Certain sequences of myths describe a situation where god destroys mankind for not going through with their intentions when they created mankind, by creating a massive flood. These stories include: ââ¬Å"Noahââ¬â¢s Arkâ⬠, ââ¬Å"Tata and Nenaâ⬠, and the ââ¬Å"Deucalionâ⬠. All of these stories have cultural aspects that provide similarities and differences in each other. One thing that is important to point out is that ââ¬Å"Tata and Nenaâ⬠, ââ¬Å"Deucalionâ⬠, and ââ¬Å"Noahââ¬â¢s Arkâ⬠all explain what happened to the world after it was destroyed, in different ways. For example in the story of ââ¬Å"Deucalionâ⬠, ââ¬Å"Tlaloc then appeared to them and said, ââ¬Å"This is how I am repaid for saving your lives? â⬠They were changed into dogsâ⬠(Bierlein30). In the story ââ¬Å"Tata and Nenaâ⬠, they were asked to only eat corn but instead they ate fish, so then Tlaloc got mad and turned them into dogs, in a world that was completely destroyed with no intention of repopulation. In the ââ¬Å"Deucalionâ⬠story, ââ¬Å"These rocks were transformed into people who repopulated the earthâ⬠(Deucalion30). Rocks were thrown behind Zeus who then was turned to people who soon remade the world all over again. Also the myth of ââ¬Å"Noahââ¬â¢s Arkâ⬠has a different story, ââ¬Å"God then repopulated the world with what Noah had saved. Like the one of each animalâ⬠(Noah29). God decided to make the world again and used the animals Noah saved to do so. This all proves that all of the stories had a different way of explaining what happened to the world after it was destroyed. All of the myths describe a different culture involved. Like, In the story ââ¬Å"Deucalionâ⬠, ââ¬Å"And it rained for 9 days and 9 nights until the entire world was flooded except for two mountain peaks in Greece, Mt Parnassus and Mt. Olympus, the latter being the home of the Godsâ⬠(Deucalion30). This shows that the Greek gods were ignorant and made it rain everywhere except in the Greece Mountains where they were staying. In ââ¬Å"Tata and Nenaâ⬠, ââ¬Å"During the era of the Fourth Sun, the Sun of Water, the people grew very wicked and ignored the worships of the godsâ⬠(Bierlein30). The Aztec gods were mad at humans for not listening to them, and so they decided they needed to flood the whole world. This shows that no one cared at all about anything the Aztec gods wanted. Also, In ââ¬Å"Noahââ¬â¢s Arkâ⬠, God flooded the world and then saved Noah. He then repopulated the world and the Jews were afraid of the flood. God then promised the Jews he would not do another flood (Noah29). God basically said heââ¬â¢s tired of destroying the world with water, and heââ¬â¢ll leave the Jews alone for awhile. Itââ¬â¢s really obvious that all of the destruction of the world was all to show a side in which they came from and eventually rejoiced. In the stories of ââ¬Å"Tata and Nenaâ⬠, ââ¬Å"Deucalionâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Noahââ¬â¢s Arkâ⬠all have similarities. Like in ââ¬Å"Tata and Nenaâ⬠, ââ¬Å"The godââ¬â¢s became angry and Tlaloc, the god of rains, announced that he was going to destroy the world with a floodâ⬠(Bierlein30). This proves that ââ¬Å"Noahââ¬â¢s Arkâ⬠, ââ¬Å"Deucalionâ⬠, and ââ¬Å"Tata and Nenaâ⬠all had moody gods that would wipeout the world with a flood if things werenââ¬â¢t going as planned. In the ââ¬Å"Deucalionâ⬠he was asked to go in the boat away from the flood. ââ¬Å"These rocks were transformed into people who repopulated the earthâ⬠(Deucalion30). In both of the stories of ââ¬Å"Deucalionâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Noahââ¬â¢s Arkâ⬠the world was repopulated after the destruction. In the story of ââ¬Å"Noahââ¬â¢s Arkâ⬠, ââ¬Å"God asked Noah to take his family and get a male and female of every animal then to build an arkâ⬠(Noah29). In both stories of ââ¬Å"Noahââ¬â¢s Arkâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Deucalionâ⬠they were asked to do something and were saved from the flood in the end. This makes it crystal clear that stories have very similar actions during the flood. Noahââ¬â¢s Arkâ⬠, ââ¬Å"Tata and Nenaâ⬠, and the ââ¬Å"Deucalionâ⬠showed many similarities and differences. It also showed how Aztec, Jewish and Greek cultures presented their myths, and for the most part, explaining much more than just a flood. To this day there are people who claim they have found huge wooden boats relating it back to these myths. The truth is that people will believe whatever they want to believe. Al Gore is a firm believer in UFOs, and thatââ¬â¢s not crazy in our society. The only difference between that and ââ¬Å"Noahââ¬â¢s Arkâ⬠is that there are multiple flood myths passed on from century to century.

PopulationThe Mexican population is divided into three main groups, the people of European descent, the Native Americans, and the people mixed with European and Native American descent or better known as Mestizos. Of these groups, the Mestizos are by far the Largest, making up about 60% of the people of Mexico. The Native Americans are the next largest with 30% and the Europeans the smallest with only 10%. The society is semi-industrial. The population of Mexico in the 1995 census was 93,670,000 giving the country an estimated person for about every 4 square miles. About 75% of people live in urban areas. Mexico consists of 32 administrative divisions, 31 states and the Federal District. The capital and cultural center of Mexico is Mexico City, with a population of 8,236,960 in 1990. Other important cities are Gaudalajara, population 1,628,617, Netzahaulcoyotl, population 1,256,115, Monterrey, population 1,064,197, Puebla, population 1,054,921, Leon, population 758,279, Cuidad Jaurez, population 798,499, and Tijuana.ClimateMexico is bisected by the tropic of Cancer; therefore, the Southern half is included in the Torrid Zone. In general, climate varies with elevation. The Tierra Caliante (hot land) includes the low coastal plains, extending from sea level to about 3000ft. Weather is extremely humid, with temperatures varying from 60-120 degrees. The Tierra Templata (temperature land) extends from about 3000-6000 ft. with average temperatures of 62-70 degrees. The Tierra Friar (cold land) extends from 6000-9000 ft. with average temperatures of 53-65 degrees. The rainy season lasts from May to October. Although sections of Southern Mexico receive about 40-60 in. of rain a year most other parts are much dryer. Rainfall averages less than 25 in. in the temperature lands about 18 in. in the cold land and less than 10 in. in the Semiarid North. Government: 1980-PresentDuring the 1980s Mexico pursued an assertive hemispheric policy. In 1982Miguel de la Madrid Hurtado was elected to succeed President Lopez Portillo. By the mid 1980's a rapid increase in foreign, coupled with falling oil prices, had plunged the country into severe financial straits. Amid reports of widespread irregularities, the PRI claimed victory in congressional elections in 1985. However in that same year the added burden of a devastating earthquake, which killed 7000 kept Mexico's financial systems desolate.Carlos Salinas De Gortari, the PRI candidate was elected president in 1988. Another thing that happened was Hurricane Gilbert devastated the Yucatan Peninsula and severely damaged the southern most parts of Texas.

What the researchers mean by ââ¬Ësubjective well-beingââ¬â¢ is that it takes a broad view of happiness, beyond the pursuit of short-term of physical pleasures defining a narrow hedonism. It is also define as life satisfaction, the presence of positive affect, and a relative absence of negative affect. ââ¬ËSubjective well-beingââ¬â¢ is measured by hedonic well-being where itââ¬â¢s proposed that an individual experiences happiness when positive affect and satisfaction with life are both high. * On p. 18 of your textbook, the authors present the hypothetical possibility of being hooked up to an ââ¬Ëexperience machineââ¬â¢ that would guarantee a constant state of happiness and positive emotion. Would you choose to be hooked up to such a machine? Why or why not? In your response, differentiate between hedonic and eudaimonic concepts of happiness. When I read this part of the passage in my textbook about being hook to an ââ¬Å"experience machineâ⬠that would guarantee a constant state of happiness and positive emotion did cross my mind. I thought about what it would be like just to feel the constant emotion of being happy. At first I thought it would be an incredible experience. Never having to worry, or to feel sad, to feel rejected or lonely would be awesome not to feel those emotions anymore. However, to be in a constant state of being happy and always positive could take away the fulfillment of actually living life. Eudaimonic is defined as self-realization, meaning the expression and fulfillment of inner potential. So from this perspective, the good life results from living in accordance with your true self. Itââ¬â¢s a process in which our talents, needs, and deeply held values direct the way we conduct our lives. The hedonic view captures a major element of what we mean by happiness in everyday terms: we enjoy life, we are satisfied with how our lives are going; and good events outnumber bad events. Hedonic well-being is based on the concept that increased pleasure and decreased pain leads to happiness (subjective well-being).

How to Pick Your College Classes
The main reason youre in school is to earn your degree. Picking good courses at the right time and in the right order is, therefore, critical to your success. Talk to Your Advisor No matter how big or small your school is, you should have an adviser who helps make sure you are on track to earning your degree. Check in with them, no matter how sure you are about your choices. Not only does your adviser most likely need to sign off on your selections, but he or she can also help alert you to things you may not even have considered. Make Sure Your Schedule Has Balance Dont set yourself up for failure by thinking you can handle more courses than you usually take, all with labs and heavy workloads. Make sure your schedule has some balance: varying levels of difficulty, varying subject matters (when possible) so you arent using one part of your brain 24 hours a day, varying due dates for major projects and exams. Each course may be fine in and of itself, but when combined to create a killer schedule, they all may turn out to be a big mistake. Think About Your Learning Style Do you learn better in the morning? In the afternoon? Do you learn better in a huge classroom, or in a smaller section setting? See what options you can find within a department our course section and pick something that matches best with your learning style. Aim to Pick Strong Professors Do you know you absolutely love a certain professor in your department? If so, see if you can take a course with him or her this semester, or if it would be wiser to wait until a later time. If youve found a professor with whom you intellectually click, taking another class from him or her can help you get to know him or her better and possibly lead to other things, like research opportunities and letters of recommendation. If youre unfamiliar with professors on campus but know that you learn best from a professor who engages a class (instead of one who only lectures), ask around and check online to see what experience other students have had with various professors and their teaching styles. Consider Your Work Schedule and Other Commitments Do you know that you absolutely must have an on-campus job? Do you need an internship for your major? If so, will it require you to work days? Consider taking a class or two that meets in the evenings. Do you know you work best when you can plop yourself down in the library for eight hours straight? Try to avoid taking classes on Friday so that you can use it as a work day. Planning around your known commitments can help reduce your stress level once the semester is moving ahead at full-steam.
